CMV is a common virus that is spread like a cold or flu. We are screening pregnant women for exposure to cytomegalovirus during the early portion of their pregnancy. CMV infection during pregnancy may lead to babies being born earlier than expected, having low birth weight, smaller heads, hearing loss, and sometimes death. The purpose of our study is to see if giving CMV infected pregnant women substances that help the immune system destroy the CMV (antibodies) will result in fewer fetuses being infected with CMV.

We would like to screen all pregnant women less than 23 weeks for the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) antibody. If you test positive for the HCV antibody, we would like to follow you throughout your pregnancy and delivery, and follow your infant through 18 months of age. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the risk of transmission of HCV from mothers to their babies. Some women who test negative for the HCV antibody will be asked to be healthy controls in this study.

This is a study for people who have had a relapse a of kidney disease called ANCA- associated vasculitis (AAV.) In this comparison treatment study, participants will receive 4 infusions of rituximab + prednisone. Maintenance of remission will be slowly tapered prednisone + either a rituximab infusion every 4 months for 20 months OR take azathioprine pills daily for 27 months. This study does not accept healthy volunteers.

Apixaban in nephrotic syndrome

Apixaban (Eliquis) is an FDA-approved blood thinning medication. There is a need to understand how apixaban (Eliquis) is affected by having a medical condition called nephrotic syndrome. This study will use blood tests to gather information on drug levels of apixaban and on how apixaban affects measurements of clotting ability. Comparing these measurements in people with nephrotic syndrome to measurements in people without nephrotic syndrome may lead to a better understanding about how to use apixaban in patients who have nephrotic syndrome. We also want to understand how your genetics might also affect the behavior of apixaban. This study will also give direction for future research and provide more information for making clinical decisions regarding apxiaban use.

We are conducting a research study to find out how daily habits - sleeping, socializing, eating, working - impact health and happiness. All students are eligible to participate. If you decide to participate in this study, you will be asked to wear a GENEactiv device, which is similar to a FitBit, every day for one week. You will not need to do anything with the GENEactiv other than wear it. You will also be asked to complete a two-minute questionnaire each day about your sleep and mood. You will also complete a longer, one-time questionnaire about yourself. Later in the semester, you will be asked to complete a follow-up questionnaire that will take about 20 minutes.

My Body My Test is a research study looking at ways to make it easier for women to complete cervical cancer screening. Participants in this study will receive no-cost cervical cancer screening at a local clinic (if they want to) and will complete 3 phone surveys. Some participants will also be randomized (chosen like a flip of a coin) to try a new and easy kind of at-home cervical cancer screening kit.

PPD ACT

PPD ACT is a research app for women who have ever experienced postpartum depression (PPD) or psychosis (PPP.) The goal of the study is to improve detection, treatment and prevention of PPD and PPP by finding the genetic basis of these disorders. Women who participate will download the PPD ACT app, fill out questionnaires and if eligible, submit a saliva sample. Study 2: Additionally, if you have given birth in the last 3 months and are currently experiencing symptoms of PPD, you may also qualify for participation in a 6-week study based at UNC Chapel Hill clinics where you will wear an Apple Watch to track your mood and symptoms to help us learn how to develop better treatments for PPD. Participation in this study requires an iPhone 5 or above and willingness to be seen at the UNC Chapel Hill Out-Patient Psychiatry Clinic.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking volunteers for a research study testing the efficacy of the FDA approved medication bupropion in reducing binge drinking episodes. Bupropion is currently used to treat depression, but recently, studies have suggested that bupropion might be helpful in the treatment of binge drinking. The study will be "blinded" which means that neither you nor the study staff will know if you are taking bupropion or placebo. Participants will take the study medication for 3 months and attend 10 visits.

The purpose of the research is to develop a pediatric test of speech perception that can be administered in both English and Spanish. During the study, the participant will sit in a soundproof room and listen to words presented over headphones or loudspeakers. The participant will also complete tests of language proficiency, receptive vocabulary and nonverbal intelligence. This study should take 1-2 visits of 1-2.5 hours each. We are enrolling persons ages 4-17 that are bilingual English-Spanish speakers and also monolingual (English-only or Spanish only) speakers.
